SSJI March 14 AGM Cancelled

SSJI's AGM scheduled for Sat March 14 at Milford Town Hall has been cancelled due to concerns about coronavirus. 

The meeting will be rescheduled as soon as possible and we'll keep you informed about revised plans.

Municipal Letter of Support

The March 10 Prince Edward County Council meeting included a motion to approve a letter of support for SSJI’s efforts to be signed by Mayor Steve Ferguson and sent to Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek and Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski. 

Council approved the letter after amending the draft to add emphasis to the need for public consultation into the management plan and the desire to maintain traditional recreational activities in these areas.  Full text of the excellent staff report can be viewed on the municipal website here.  Letter of support can be viewed below:

NCC honoured with Preservation of Cultural Heritage Landscapes Award

The Prince Edward County Heritage Advisory Committee (PEHAC) honoured Mark Stabb and Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) today with the Preservation of Cultural Heritage Landscapes Award for NCC's contributions to the Hudgin-Rose project. NCC has collaborated with Hastings Prince Edward Land Trust and SSJI to create a  31-hectare (76-acre) conserved area on Ostrander Point Road in South Marysburgh.

World Wetlands Day Feb 2

February 2 is World Wetlands Day, a time to reflect on the global importance of these ecosystems, and to renew our commitment to protecting wetlands in Prince Edward County and throughout Canada.  This year’s theme is “Wetland Biodiversity: Why it Matters.”

South Shore Joint Initiative Fall Symposium attracts large and enthusiastic crowd

An enthusiastic crowd filled Picton Town Hall Saturday November 30 for the South Shore Joint Initiative Fall Symposium.  The symposium was a daylong event focussed on gaining input from participants about the many recreational uses of the Ostrander Point Crown Land Block and the Point Petre Provincial Wildlife Area.  Three speakers inspired the crowd.
