📰 SSJI in the News: Advocating for PEC’s South Shore at Nature on the Hill.

Cheryl Chapman, our dedicated Outdoor Educator at South Shore Joint Initiative (SSJI), recently attended Nature Canada’s Nature on the Hill—a national event in Ottawa that brought together conservation leaders from across the country.

Through SSJI’s Wild Thing environmental education program and ongoing community outreach, Cheryl helped spotlight the importance of protecting Prince Edward County’s South Shore. She met with MP Chris Malette to share SSJI’s goals for conservation and restoration, emphasizing the ecological significance of this rare and undeveloped shoreline.

The meeting also included Adam Cheeseman of Nature New Brunswick, and British Columbia’s Charlotte Dawe of Ecojustice. MP Malette was asked to press the federal government to implement Canada’s 2030 Nature Strategy—a key framework for protecting biodiversity nationwide. Read more...

2026 Square Foot Art Show at Arts on Main Gallery: Backroom

We know the South Shore’s rare and remarkable beauty is beloved by artists. This is why we’ve created our first-ever Square Foot Art Show opportunity for artists. From January 23 to February 18, 2026, we’ll showcase square foot art with sales proceeds benefiting the artist and South Shore Joint Initiative.

Arts On Main Gallery is a vibrant and active part of the PEC arts community and its Backroom Gallery will be home to our much-anticipated South Shore fundraising event.

Artists are invited to submit up to four artworks to the Square Foot Art Show. Art sales will directly support non-profit South Shore Joint Initiative’s work to protect, preserve and restore PEC’s South Shore.
