The South Shore Footpath Project is a proposed walking route through Prince Edward County’s most beautiful and wildest landscape — the ecologically rich South Shore. This long-term project envisions a low-impact trail system that connects people to nature while protecting the rare habitats and species that make this shoreline so special.
Led by the volunteer-driven South Shore Joint Initiative (SSJI), the project is currently focused on mapping potential trail routes across publicly owned conservation lands and properties held by land trusts with an environmental mandate. The Footpath will only be created where it is welcomed — private landowner participation is entirely voluntary.
The goal is to provide access that is gentle, respectful, and sustainable, so walkers can experience the beauty and biodiversity of the South Shore, without damaging the ecosystems that thrive there.
