If there is one thing nature guarantees, it's that no two years are exactly alike.
A recent trip out to both Point Petre and the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area (NWA) provided a stark reminder of just how dynamic our local ecosystems are. If you were out exploring these same trails last year, you likely remember the incredibly dry conditions. This year? It’s the exact opposite.
The landscape is currently defined by an abundance of standing water, completely transforming the look, feel, and life of the trails. But a wetter environment certainly hasn't dampened biodiversity! Here is a glimpse of what is buzzing, crawling, and blooming on the South Shore right now. Read more...

Watercolour Walk: A Beautiful First Step Into Nature
On July 22, we hosted our very first South Shore Watercolour Walk—and what a joyful, creative day it turned out to be. Artists brought their watercolours, curiosity and interest in learning about plein-air techniques to the Hudgin-Rose Nature Reserve. Guided by experienced plein‑air painter Tim Snyder, participants learned key outdoor best practices before walking to the Lake Ontario shoreline. After two hours of watercolour sketching, artists enjoyed a ride back to Hudgin Log House where they enjoyed their picnic lunches and found inspiration in historic log house and the surrounding landscape.
Events like this remind us why PEC’s South Shore is so special—as well as the value of experiencing it first-hand with knowledgeable experts. And, if you missed our inaugural walk, we’ve got good news! A South Shore Watercolour Walk with Tim Snyder featuring the autumnal landscape will take place on Saturday, September 26. Only 15 spots are available, so register here to secure your spot and be sure to share with your friends. Read more and see pictures here...
