Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area (PEP-NWA) is one of only 10 NWA across Canada open to the public, and it is open year-round. A walk in the NWA in the hush of winter is restorative. Winter's quiet peaceful atmosphere belies the diversity of wildlife activity to be found. Join us for an easy winter walk on level groomed trails with stunning views. There are plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife as we move through a variety of habitats. We will wander through a hardwood forest and along the cliffs while we watch for signs of deer, grouse, weasel and raccoon. The scrub and grasslands are home to turkeys, coyotes and rabbits. The shoreline offers possible sightings of mink, beaver, long-tailed ducks and other waterfowl. Winter birds like chickadees, woodpeckers, jays and junco are plentiful and easy to spot.
The views in the NWA are spectacular, the wildlife abundant and the peace and quiet are just what one needs to start the new year.
