Gwen Shandroski is a Canadian-born visual artist living in Picton, Ontario. She has worked and lived on both coasts and in five provinces including her favourite, Newfoundland. Her work has been shown in galleries in Toronto, the Women’s Art Association of Canada and Art in the County. Her first solo show was in Leslieville in Toronto. The less refined images lend themselves to her childhood in Manitoba and North Western Ontario and her work in the County.
Gwen is a retired speech-language pathologist and currently works in Picton as an expressive arts psychotherapist. Her art holds the tension between the pronounced and the unspoken. She is part of the elder queer community and loves working with edges be it in mixed media or acrylic paint. Her interest is in the relationship between harmony and dissonance. Following her Grade 13 English teacher's adage "sometimes, something feels right but doesn't belong, like a comma."
