Monarch sightings were sparse at Point Petre, with only a single caterpillar spotted and very few adults fluttering about—perhaps just one or two. In contrast, Prince Edward Point offered a livelier scene, with an estimated 15 to 20 adult Monarchs dancing through the air and one caterpillar quietly munching away on milkweed. It’s likely still early in the season, as these numbers are modest compared to what’s expected later in the summer.

As August progresses into September and October, the Monarch migration will begin in earnest, and both locations should see a dramatic increase in activity. The skies will soon be filled with vibrant orange wings as these remarkable butterflies make their long journey southward, offering a spectacular natural display for anyone lucky enough to witness it.
