Get ready for a flutter‑filled day at the Hudgin‑Rose Nature Reserve! Bring the whole family to learn about Monarch butterflies, make beautiful crafts, and explore the world of these iconic pollinators.

SSJI volunteers and outdoor educator Cheryl Chapman will be on-site, sharing their passion and knowledge throughout the day.

Pack a lunch and enjoy a peaceful break under the shade of the majestic trees.

  • Join a guided caterpillar safari
  • Snap a selfie with our giant butterfly wings
  • Test your skills in the Monarch Scavenger Hunt
  • Explore our specimens table
  • Create a Monarch‑inspired craft to take home
  • Follow a meandering path and create a South Shore map with stops describing each of the special and unique places of our beloved South Shore

🐛 Nature Discovery Walks with Joanne Dewey and Matthew Christie

Join naturalist Joanne Deweyin the morning or Matthew Christie in the afternoon for a walk to explore the Hudgin-Rose Nature Reserve and Monarch Point. Joanne and Matthew will help us find Monarch caterpillars while we listen for bird calls and investigate the unique botanicals of the South Shore.

  • Make a Monarch lifecycle bracelet
  • Needle felt your own butterfly
  • Create a yarn‑wrapped caterpillar
  • Prepare milkweed seed bombs
  • Learn to draw a Monarch
  • And more hands‑on fun
