South Shore Joint Initiative is driven by its vision to permanently protect the south shore of Prince Edward County. This vision is achieved by strategic plan with defined FIVE PILLARS:

New South Shore Conservation Reserve

This involves working with the government to develop a management plan for the newly created Monarch Point Conservation Reserve in Prince Edward County.

Advancing Biodiversity Protection

This involves gathering species data, developing reports and building awareness about Species at Risk as well as the area’s rare and fragile ecosystem, citizen science activities, a stewardship program and more!

Creating a Legacy Eco-Footpath

This involves creating a Legacy Eco-Footpath that safeguards the area’s biodiversity, that enables people to step into and enjoy nature as well as mapping optimal paths that take into consideration property ownership and protective measures as well as creating an ongoing maintenance plan.

Identifying and Protecting Cultural Heritage

This involves working to ensure appreciation and protection of the South Shore’s unique cultural heritage including historical pursuits such as fishing and farming and the buildings and heritage landscapes that supported early settlers and indigenous peoples. South Shore Joint Initiative is championing projects including Commercial Fisheries and Hudgin Log House Restoration.

Designing Public Events and Fundraising (Community Engagement)

This involves continuing to create and deliver educational events and publications to promote the awareness, biodiversity and protection of the South Shore, engaging more people and fundraising for our cause. Events include public walks, shoreline/roadside cleanups, data/species collection, invasive species eradication, children’s nature festivals and other educational activities. South Shore Joint Initiative actively engages volunteers, co-op students, donors and supporters in its mission.
