South Shore Joint Initiative The Vanishing Legacy webinar

Join South Shore Joint Initiative (SSJI) virtually on February 23, 2022, at 2:00 pm for a fascinating look at the 200-year-old traditions of lake faring families in Prince Edward County.

The Vanishing Legacy is a deep and personal documentary of the final years of some of the men, women and children who made their living sailing, fishing and rum running on Prince Edward County’s rare, windswept and fragile South Shore.

Based out of South Bay and Long Point, lake faring families forged a unique maritime culture in these remote areas. Suzanne Pasternak lived among these families for more than 30 years and devoted her life to documenting their legacy as it was disappearing.

p.s. URGENT South Shore call to action! EVERY DAY until Feb 22 please vote for Hudgin Log House c.1860 to become National Trust for Canada’s Next Great Save! You can vote now here.

For thousands of years, the land of Prince Edward County has been the traditional territory and home of Indigenous peoples. We acknowledge that the South Shore lies on the traditional lands of the Wendake-Nionwentsïo, Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee) and Mississauga Nations and that Indigenous peoples continue to live in Prince Edward County. We are dedicated to protecting, preserving and restoring this land for all future generations.
