The sky is filled with wonder, an experience you should merely have to look up to enjoy. But the stars are becoming more difficult to observe and are even invisible in many urban centres.

The Royal Canadian Astronomical Society (RASC) Belleville Chapter invite you to examine the current situation, its effect on life forms not just our own and look at ways to mitigate or eliminate the growing threat to our access to the night sky.

Steve Burr, a member of the South Shore Joint Initiative and RASC Belleville is the champion for dark skies in Prince Edward County and for the establishment of a Dark Sky Preserve on the South Shore of the County. The Quinte Field Naturalists have signed on as supporters of this endeavour and Steve will bring you up to date on his efforts.

Steve is an amateur astrophotographer and will be sharing some of his amazing pictures of star clusters, galaxies and nebulas that await your discovery in the night sky.

And, if you haven’t already seen it, we will be showing Gary Magwood’s documentary “Hello Darkness”.

Will you participate?
