NWA Tours and Wild Thing Program Update
NWA Tours and Wild Thing Program Update Take a moment to explore some stunning photographs captured by Michael Macleod and Dawn Ayer during recent NWA tours. These outings were part of the Prince Edward Point NWA tours, made possible by generous funding from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
We’re fortunate to have Cheryl Chapman, an experienced outdoor educator, leading these enlightening tours. You can tell from the photographs that our fall weather varies, but our experiences are always excellent and insightful. What a way to spend time outside and enjoy nature on our beautiful South Shore!
In addition to the NWA tours, Cheryl spearheads SSJI’s Wild Thing program. She is collaborating with Picton Library to host weekend storytime and singalongs for children and their parents. In addition, the Wild Thing program offers outdoor educational opportunities on environmental topics for grades 7 to 12 students at The ROC Youth Group.
Big thanks to Prince Edward County’s Municipal Community Grant for South Shore Joint Initiative's Wild Thing Program.
November 30th was especially busy as Cheryl started the day at the library with a Special Storytime: all about owls, where kids made owlets. Later that day, she took another group of adult keeners on an afternoon NWA tour filled with fascinating facts. Participants learned how to identify swallow nests, animal prints, trees where deer had rubbed their antler fur off, late-blooming flowers, habits of over-wintering birds, and the presentation of an educational owl taxidermy.
