Introducing the PEC South Shore Footpath Project

Led by a vision of a “footpath across the South Shore where together, people and nature thrive” a South Shore Joint Initiative (SSJI) volunteer committee is working to identify new public walking routes across the 26 km of the PEC South Shore Key Biodiversity Area.

Inspired by the iconic Bruce Trail, it is hoped that a PEC South Shore Footpath will connect people to nature and in turn, help preserve the incredible biodiversity of the area.

A PEC South Shore Footpath has many potential benefits, such as:

  • Increasing everyone’s understanding and appreciation of local nature
  • Enabling people to tread lightly and explore publicly owned paths and roadways in conserved South Shore areas
  • Encouraging first-hand discovery of plants, animals, birds and terrain
  • Raising awareness of the importance of conservation
  • Promoting free, sustainable recreation in an area of stunning natural beauty
  • Fostering an overall sense of wellbeing, thanks to spending time in nature

Led by more than 20 enthusiastic volunteers, the PEC South Shore Footpath Project has the potential to become a legacy for all future generations.
