Prince Edward County’s South Shore represents Canada’s largest and last undeveloped natural landscape and Lake Ontario shoreline. An area of remarkable biodiversity, the South Shore is home to at least 41 Species at Risk including amphibians, birds, fish, insects, plants and reptiles such as the provincially threatened and federally endangered Blanding’s Turtle.

Protecting and preserving public lands in Prince Edward County’s South Shore presents a rare opportunity to:

  • Moderate the effects of local climate change in Prince Edward County
  • Prevent further loss of biodiversity in southern Ontario
  • Preserve a critical North American migratory bird flyway
  • Make a permanent Canadian contribution to mitigating global climate change

For these reasons and many more, South Shore Joint Initiative is proud to champion the South Shore for future generations.
