Gilles Miramontes

Graduate of the Fine Arts Department, Ontario College of Art (AOCA '83), with several years study in Italy, established studio in December 1984.

A resident of Prince Edward County, Ontario since 1967, Gilles Miramontes is a graduate of the Fine Arts Department of the Ontario College of Art, having specialized in figure sculpture and painting.

He apprenticed with Canadian sculptor William McElcheran and for three years working in bronze foundries in Pietrasanta in Tuscany. He returned to OCA for a post graduate year, once again in Pietrasanta, to carve in marble, receiving awards from OCA and the Royal Canadian Academy.

In 1985, Miramontes established his Fine Art Studio in Prince Edward County, while teaching art for nearing two decades. During this time, he was actively involved in heritage preservation with the Prince Edward County Historical Society and served as President of provincial council of Architectural Conservancy of Ontario.

Heritage buildings have naturally become one of his main subjects in the studio, where he works in a variety of media: oils, acrylics, watercolour, chalk pastel and pencil. Aside from architecture, he has a passion for landscape, portrait and the human figure, which is the main theme of his sculptures. His work is in many private collections.
